Atta Basuki - Writer, Kapster

Meet Hartati Pamungkas, also known as Atta Basuki (20). This short haired young lady was born in Palembang, March 12. With her 6 siblings, she dropped as the last hope of her parents, also she came from a very ordinary family, which made her a hardworker. Since a kid, she's obsessed in becoming a career woman and artist. She likes to sing, talking to a mirror (while dreaming she was talking to public at that time), since then she wanted to be a radio announcer.
"When I was young, I love to talk and sing in front of
mirror. I thought, a radio announcer is a really cool profession. I
love fashion since I was a child, sometimes I used my mother's dress in front
of mirror. I love many forms of arts since I was young."
Failed in scholarships to some schools, she entered private school
for Senior High School. This was when she started to get some points for her future life. Won at resume
contest made teachers supported her to take communication major for her
bachelor in university. At this
time, she already kept a big desires to live in Bandung. For her, Bandung is a
great place full of artists and creative people. She believed Bandung will guide her to
find her passion, making a good
networking. Start a better life. And catch her dream as an artist. So she decided to enter Communication major
in UNPAS Bandung.
Besides, she
was inspired by Notes From Qatar by Muhammad Assad at that time, she quoted
"There
is no growth in comfort zone, and there
is no comfort in growth zone", it made her believe that she should move from Palembang to another
city.
She told me
the reason why she turned her name becomes Atta Basuki, because that name reminds her of bad
experience by bullying at 3rd grade of JHS.
It makes her change her nickname to Atta when she started enter senior
High school with hope that will bring new character and change her life. Then "it successed" she said. She became more confidence with that name. By
changing the name, she Enter senior high school and voila! She has a lot of friends, she never felt bullied anymore. Since then people know her
as Atta not Hartati.
For
two-three years in her college
life, she is an active radio annoucer and a proud one. She was told to
change her name into a simpler one by her producer. So
she decided to pick Atta Pribadi, she turned Hartati into Atta to make it
easire for people who can't pronounce 'r'.
And ‘Pribadi’ has
meaning for being herself. Then
she decided to turn 'Pribadi' into 'Basuki', and basuki is the last name of her father, the person who inspired her. So there goes
the puzzle of where-Atta Basuki-name-came-from.
“At sixth semester of my college
life, I have to stop become a radio announcer. I was going through some
situations in my finance, and it forced me to take a job. I was introduce to
Rock n’ Roll Haircut by a friend of mine. I sent an application to RnR (Rock n’
Roll Haircut), and the very next day, I was called for training. Two months of
training was a hard times, and finnaly I got two years contract at RnR. By the
time I started to work at RnR, it’s quiet hard to match schedule as radio
announcer in college. Though I was still an anctive announcer, I decided to
quit and focus at RnR.” said Atta.
“I still remember the first day I
worked in RnR, I got a customer, and he gave me a tip.
It was Rp.15.000, and it was a
jumpstart for me to work. I felt appreciated directly for a work I’ve done.
It’s a different emotion from radio announcing, because as a radio announcer,
you don’t really know the audience you are speaking to, you never meet them,
and how they feel about your topic or things you talk about. So it’s not about
the amount of Rp.15.000, but rather the appreciation that motivated me until
now.”
As now, Atta is working on her essay
to graduate her college and still working at RnR as a capster. She has a tumblr
http://duniaatta.tumblr.com/ where she writes about romance and
anxiety (And personally, I love her writing!). She still got her artist spirit,
she attends art-related exhibition, music and movie show too. She has a dream
that in some years ahead, she will live in Malang, East Java with her boyfriend
when they married and start a business there. The funny thing is, she hasn’t go
to Malang even for once yet, but she really believes it’s a great place to live.
“For me, short hair is simple, and
it suits perfectly for they who has a lot of activities and busy, so they don’t
have to take a lot of time to take care about hair.” Atta
